What Does HatchSync™ Do?
When HatchSync is set up, it uses data from child progress in Ignite by Hatch™ and IgniteTable by Hatch™ to generate documents for Teaching Strategies GOLD® and sends them automatically to the current checkpoint period for the appropriate objective and dimension. Automatic document collection can save teachers time and helps remove observational bias.
What's Included in a HatchSync Document?
- A description of the skill played in the Notes area. This includes the objective and dimension for the corresponding skill in Hatch Insights™.
- If applicable: an image or drawing generated while a child completed an experience.
- If applicable: a rating for the objective or dimension. Not all experiences generate a rating. For example, Ignite is not able to score writing samples, so it does not provide a rating for these.
When Are Documents Sent to GOLD?
Documents are always sent overnight so that any other processes are not interrupted. Assuming the integration is set up and the children are matched, then documents will be sent.
Why Are Documents Sent?
Ignite - Documents are sent to Teaching Strategies to show that a skill has been demonstrated by a child in Ignite.
IgniteTable - Documents are sent based on the setting chosen by your organization admin. Learn more about the setting options in this article.
Documents are only sent for skills that map to GOLD objectives. For more details on what skills map to GOLD, see this article.
Are Documents Sent for All Types of Experiences in Ignite?
No, documents are only sent when children demonstrate skills in the core learning path. Documents are not sent during Guided Practice or free play.
Why Are Some Experiences Leveled and Others Are Not?
Objective/dimensions with a progression of development and learning should be automatically leveled in GOLD. Objectives/dimensions without a progression of development and learning are rated as either emerging, meets program expectations, or not yet demonstrating in GOLD. Therefore, we cannot rate them automatically. Progressions are defined for Social-Emotional, Physical, Language, Cognitive, Literacy, and Mathematics areas. Progressions are not defined for Science & Technology, Social Studies, or the Arts. Thus, for any undefined documents sent, teachers will need to go in and edit the piece of documentation to add the level they believe the child is demonstrating.
What Does "Assess All Content Areas" Mean?
This is a setting related to your GOLD account. Science & Technology and Social Studies are not automatically included or enabled in your GOLD license. For more information about enabling these additional areas see Teaching Strategies GOLD Additional Content Areas.
If you see "no" then we cannot send documents for these areas.
Are All Attempts Recorded in GOLD?
Documents are sent to GOLD when the child demonstrates the skill (or skills) as they learn with Ignite. When the skill is shown to be demonstrated, and if we have mapped that skill to an objective in GOLD, we will send confirmation of that skill being demonstrated as an observation. Skills that are not yet completed will not send documents.
Does HatchSync Provide Child Roster Data to Hatch Automatically?
HatchSync does not change or update any roster information from GOLD.
Can I Bring Over Roster Data From Teaching Strategies?
Yes! We recommend exporting child data from Teaching Strategies for import into Insights at the beginning of the school year. Learn more here.
Why Is a Child's Date of Birth Required for HatchSync Organizations?
Providing the date of birth in Insights allows for matching between children in Insights and Teaching Strategies GOLD® so that we can accurately send child documentation.
How Do I Set Up HatchSync?
For detailed instructions on how to set up HatchSync, refer to the following two articles:
- [Org Admins] Activating HatchSync® Part 1 - Creating a new Admin in GOLD®
- [Org Admins] Activating HatchSync® Part 2 - Connecting GOLD® to HatchSync
Where Can I Manage My HatchSync Connection?
Organization administrators can manage their HatchSync connection by logging into Insights and selecting the GOLD tile in the lower right corner of their dashboard.
Here, administrators can add one or more organizations from Teaching Strategies and match children between their Teaching Strategies and Hatch accounts.
Teachers can also access the matching and language selection flows for their class through the GOLD tile in the lower right corner of their dashboard.
What Is Matching, and How Do I Do It?
For detailed instructions on matching, refer to the following articles:
What Should I Do if I Have Multiple Organizations in HatchSync?
Organization administrators can add one or more organizations by visiting the HatchSync tile in the lower right corner of their dashboard.
Select the Add an Organization tile and enter details to form a new organization connection. Bear in mind that you will need to create an administrator account for each connection. See the setup instructions above.
What Happens to Documents Generated in Between Checkpoint Periods?
As you can see in the setup image above, administrators can choose what happens to child progress data that is created between assessment periods for each organization added.
Here are the options:
- Send Them Immediately Between Periods
- Send Them When the Next Period Begins
- Do Not Send Documents Between Periods
For more information about these options, see this article.
Why Don't I See All the Children/Correct Children From My HatchSync Organization?
Remember that the HatchSync connection relies on an administrator account from GOLD that should have access to all of the schools, classes, and children for which you'd like to send documentation.
If a complete list of schools and classes does not appear for your HatchSync configuration, ensure that the GOLD administrator account used to create the connection has access to all of the intended schools and classes.
