Carryover helps teachers and administrators easily re-add returning children to Hatch Insights™ after they've been archived. When you carry over a child, they’ll retain:
- All their progress in Ignite
- Their profile settings
- Their photo
- Any HatchSync® document counts (if applicable) from progress previously sent to Teaching Strategies GOLD®
When to Use Carryover
- Use carryover for children who were archived at the end of the school year and are returning.
- Don’t use carryover for children, classes, or schools that were deactivated—you'll need to reactivate them instead.

How to Use Simple Carryover
1. Open Carryover
- From the top menu, hover over ROSTER
- Click Carryover Last Year's Children
You'll now see two options:
- Simple Carryover – Best for 1–2 classes or a small number of children
- Bulk Carryover – Best for larger rosters or updating many classes
This article focuses on Simple Carryover.
2. Select Schools and Class
- Choose one or more schools from the dropdown. You’ll only see the schools you're assigned to.
- Once you've selected a school, you'll be able to choose a class to carry children into.
3. View Archived Children
After selecting a school and class:
- You can see a list of all archived children from the most recent school year.
- You'll see each child’s:
- Full name
- Archived class
- Archived school
- Date of birth
- Educational Journey (Ignite, etc.)
Use the “Archive Year” dropdown to search for children from older school years if needed.
You can move children from their archived class or school to a new one, but you may need an admin to move a child from a school you're no longer a part of.
4. Review Class Roster
Below the list of archived children, you’ll see:
- The current roster for your selected class
(It may be blank if you haven’t added anyone yet) - A “New Children” section, which shows who you’re adding in this carryover session
5. Carry Over Children
- Use the search bar or scroll through the list
- Check the box next to each child you want to carry over
- Click Save Roster
You’ll then have the option to:
- Start carryover for another class
- Or finish the carryover session
Important Notes
- Carryover is a one-time process. If you need to carry over a child more than once, please contact our support team.
- If you change a child’s class outside of the carryover process, their previous learning sessions will stay tied to the old class, which may affect reporting. We're working on improvements here, but carryover remains the best method for returning children.
