The Ignite by Hatch™ Progress Reports will help you monitor your children's progress through Ignite by calculating each child's average skill level. Recently, we have made updates to this report to better show children's starting points and learning goals in Ignite. Learn more: Ignite™ Grade Placement for Children.
You can find the reports in Hatch Insights™. Insights provides teachers and administrators with actionable data all the time, and Ignite Progress Reports are just one of the many valuable resources you will find when you visit Insights!
Where Do I Find Ignite Progress Reports?
Log in to Insights using your Hatch email and password (teachers: this is the same email and password you use for Ignite).
Navigate to IGNITE REPORTS in the top navigation menu. In the drop-down menu, navigate to Progress Reports. Here, you'll find options for Child and Class Progress (for teachers) and School Progress (for administrators).
What Is in These Reports?
The three progress reports, School Progress, Class Progress, and Child Progress, have a lot of the same elements:
- Information bar: At the top, you'll find some information about the report.
-
Filters: Under the information bar, you'll find filters that you can use to customize the different reports. The filters are slightly different depending on the report you have selected. All reports give you the ability to filter by demographics, date range, subdomain, and domain.
- Demographics are optional fields for children, so make sure you add demographics to your children if you want to use these filters.
- By default, the date range of these reports is set to the school year (Aug-Jul). If you have carry-over children or children who played before Aug. 1 and were not archived, then you may want to use the custom date range option to see progress calculated for all the skills they have played. Note: you may notice more dark green when you do change the setting because in prior years they may have played skills at lower levels than their current age-based starting point.
-
Key: Before the progress bars you'll find a key to help you navigate the data in the progress reports.
- Gold Dot: The gold dot indicates the skill level they play first in ignite.
- Dark Green: The grade-based starting level may not always be right for the child, if they do not demonstrate the skill then Ignite will move them to more foundation skills at a lower level. We show the skills played at these lower levels with a darker green color before the starting point on the progress bar.
- Light Green: Progress at or beyond the grade-based starting level is indicated in a lighter green color.
- Skill Progress Bars: The progress bars show a customized scale of skill levels based on the grade level of your child. Children begin playing Ignite at the most appropriate skill level for their age/grade. This skill level will be indicated on their progress bar. Above the progress bars, you'll find labels to help show progress through each skill level and arrows indicating when children reach important milestones in Ignite (e.g., kindergarten readiness). These bars show the school, class, or child's average skill progress.
What Does Average Skill Progress Mean?
Average skill progress is calculated based on the skills played in Ignite and their associated level. For example, if you see a progress bar at 2.5, this means that the school, class, or child has demonstrated all the skills in skill level 2 and half the skills in skill level 3 of Ignite.
As children progress through the year and play more, you will see the Average Demonstrated Progress number increase. As you think about the children in your organization and the milestones they are working toward, this report helps to ensure that there is a clear picture of the path forward.
- The School Progress Report shows the average skill progress of all the classes in your schools.
- The Class Progress Report shows the average skill progress of all the children in your classes.
- The Child Progress Report shows the average skill progress of all your children.
Child Progress Reports
The Child Progress Report combines all the skills a child has demonstrated to give you an average skill level that you can use to compare your children and support those who may need to make more progress.
This report is separated by grade so that you can more easily compare and see where children are in relation to their learning goals.
School and Class Progress Reports
These two reports combine the data of the children so that you can compare average skill progress between classes and schools. You can use these reports to support those who may need to increase their progress.
We've recently made changes to ensure that Ignite's skills are developmentally appropriate for each grade level. To help show this, we have separated the progress bars into the grades for which the school or class has. This allows you to better monitor if children are reaching their learning goals.
Child Skill Detail Report

- In this report (as shown in the image below), you will see skill level bars that go to Level 8.
- Level 3 represents end-of-3-year-old expectations.
- Level 4 represents kindergarten readiness (i.e., skills needed to be a successful learner in kindergarten).
- Levels 5–7 represent kindergarten-year expectations.
- Levels 8-12 represent skills for first-graders.
The color key (shown in the image below) includes supportive and formative language, as well as Guided Practice, Not Yet Played, and Not Applicable. Below this, you'll find a gold dot and a key. The gold dot indicated the skills the child first saw and played in Ignite. This is determined based on their grade level. The Black flag indicates the first skill level demonstrated. If a child does not demonstrate the skills at their grade-based starting level then Ignite will move them to a more foundational level. In this case, the black flag will appear on a lower skill level than their starting skill level.
This information helps teachers and administrators understand which digital experiences are currently offered within Ignite.
