The Ignite by Hatch™ Progress Reports will help you monitor your children's progress through Ignite by calculating each child's average skill level. Recently, we have made updates to this report to better show children's starting points and learning goals in Ignite. Learn more: Ignite™ Grade Placement for Children.
You can find the reports in Hatch Insights™. Insights provides teachers and administrators with real-time, actionable data all the time, and Ignite Progress Reports are just one of the many valuable resources you will find when you visit Insights!
Where Do I Find Ignite Progress Reports?
Log in to Insights using your Hatch email and password (teachers: this is the same email and password you use for Ignite).
Navigate to IGNITE REPORTS in the top navigation menu. In the drop-down menu, navigate to Progress Reports. Here, you'll find options for Child and Class Progress (for teachers) and School Progress (for administrators).
What Is in These Reports?
The three progress reports, School Progress, Class Progress, and Child Progress, have a lot of the same elements:
- Information bar: At the top, you'll find some information about the report.
-
Filters: Under the information bar, you'll find filters that you can use to customize the different reports. The filters are slightly different depending on the report you have selected. All reports give you the ability to filter by demographics, date range, subdomain, and domain.
- Demographics are optional fields for children, so make sure you add demographics to your children if you want to use these filters.
-
Entry Progress: On the left side, you'll also notice a column labeled Entry Progress. This shows the average progress through Entry Experiences, which are played when children first play Ignite.
- You'll see a checkmark if the child, class, or school has completed entry.
- You can click on the label to go to the school entry report, where you'll see more details about the skills that children play in Entry Experiences.
- For more information, read [Org Admins, School Admins, Teachers] Entry Reports.
- Core Skill Progress: Above the progress bars, you'll find labels to help show progress through each skill level (1–8) and arrows indicating when children reach important milestones in Ignite (e.g., kindergarten readiness). These bars show the school, class, or child's average skill progress.
What Does Average Skill Progress Mean?
Average skill progress is calculated based on the skills played in Ignite and their associated level. For example, if you see a progress bar at 2.5, this means that the school, class, or child has demonstrated half the skills in Skill Level 3 of Ignite.
As children progress through the year and play more, you will see the Average Demonstrated Progress number increase.
It is important to remember that the scale of 1–8 represents the milestones we are tracking. Level 3 represents end-of-3-year-old expectations, Level 4 represents the skills needed to be successful in kindergarten (kindergarten readiness), Levels 5–7 represent the kindergarten-year expectations, and Level 8 represents the skills present in the first-grade year.
As you think about the children in your organization and the milestones they are working toward, this report helps to ensure that there is a clear picture of the path forward.
- The School Progress Report shows the average skill progress of all the classes in your schools.
- The Class Progress Report shows the average skill progress of all the children in your classes.
- The Child Progress Report shows the average skill progress of all your children.
School and Class Progress Reports
These two reports combine the data of the children so that you can compare average skill progress between classes and schools. You can use these reports to support those who may need to increase their progress.
We've recently made changes to ensure that Ignite's skills are developmentally appropriate for each grade level. To help show this, we have included expand buttons on progress bars for which the school or class has multiple grade levels. This allows you to better monitor if children are reaching their learning goals.
Child Progress Reports
The Child Progress Report combines all the skills a child has demonstrated to give you an average skill level that you can use to compare your children and support those who may need to make more progress.
If your child is a kindergartener, then you will notice that their bars are already filled with light green up to the end of Skill Level 2. This shows you that kindergarteners start playing Ignite experiences at Skill Level 3.
Child Skill Detail Report
To access a Child Skill Detail Report, click on the child's name. Teachers and family members can also access this report.
- In this report (as shown in the image below), you will see skill level bars that go to Level 8.
- Level 3 represents end-of-3-year-old expectations.
- Level 4 represents kindergarten readiness (i.e., skills needed to be a successful learner in kindergarten).
- Levels 5–7 represent kindergarten-year expectations.
- Level 8 represents skills present in the first-grade year.
Finally, the color key (shown in the image below) includes supportive and formative language, as well as Guided Practice, Not Yet Played, and Not Applicable. This information helps teachers and administrators understand which digital experiences are currently offered within Ignite.
If your child is a kindergartener, then you will notice that their bars for Skill Levels 1 and 2 are already filled with a light green. This shows you that kindergarteners start playing Ignite experiences at Skill Level 3, which is more developmentally appropriate for this age group.
