Guided Practice offers additional instructional support for children who need it most. If a child struggles to demonstrate mastery after two attempts at a core experience and has already shown a lower skill level, Guided Practice steps in. Using the gradual release model, these experiences help scaffold learning, guiding children toward skill development and success.
Note: If your child has not demonstrated the skill at a skill level lower than their current skill level then they will move down to a lower skill level before receiving guided practice. For more information see Ignite™ Grade Placement and Personalized Sequencing.
- Gradual Release is a research-based, three-step process that supports children’s acquisition of skills through verbal and visual cues, which follow the “I do, we do, you do” theory.
- Through an engaging digital play environment, Ignite helps children acquire the skills necessary for success in kindergarten (and beyond!). The Guided Practice feature provides additional instructional support for skills not yet developed while nurturing confidence and independence!
- The embedded visual and verbal cues woven into the fabric of Guided Practice experiences increase the likelihood that children will engage and demonstrate understanding of the skill(s) being taught and encourage children to take risks in a supported environment.
The best part? Guided Practice works diligently behind the scenes of classroom learning, providing objective data to teachers! Insights reports let teachers know when Guided Practice-supported skill development is occurring and where additional teacher-led instructional support is needed.
Skills Supported Through Guided Practice
We currently support Guided Practice in Skill Levels 2–8 for all Domains where the skills are educationally appropriate. We will continue to expand Guided Practice across all Domains for Levels 2 and beyond.
For Spanish learners, we have guided practice support for skill levels 2 - 7 at this time.
Guided Practice powerfully extends teachers’ reach, increasing the rate of skill acquisition and retention across entire classrooms while moving children onward and upward!
