This article applies to Blue 55" Interactive Displays and Green 65" Interactive Displays with Intel NUC computers.
Over time, the small form-factor Intel NUC computer air intake vent may become filled with dust and cause the computer to overheat, stall and shut down while in use. The problem may present itself when playing video, particularly HD or 4k video, from streaming sites such as Youtube because decoding the video requires the internal components to work hard and generate more heat. You may also see an error message indicating the computer shut down due to overheating when you are able to turn it back on. Removing the accumulated dust should resolve this problem and restore functionality.
In order to clean the dust from the computer you will need canned air/computer duster which can be found at most hardware stores, super-centers, and some dollar stores:
Using a vacuum with a narrow hose extension will work but may not be as effective.
Unmount the Intel NUC computer from the back side of the display by removing the power, network, and USB cables. Note the location these cables are connected for easier re-assembly. The computer is mounted on small hooks so lift up and then away from the back of the display. Note the mounting points on the bottom of the screen and back of the display as it will need to be re-mounted using the reverse of this method.
Locate the metal grill on the "back" of the computer. This is the side where the power cable was connected. This is the location we will be cleaning. Ignore the vents/grills on the other sides of the computer.
Your computer may look slightly different from the picture but the air intake vent should be in the same location
We recommend taking the computer outside to avoid mess and using the computer duster to blow out these vents. You may need to use a significant portion of the charge in the can as the dust can be difficult to dislodge.
After blowing out the air intake vent, remount the computer and reconnect the cables for use.
*If the overheating persists the dust may be lodged deep in the vent and a more thorough cleaning involving partial disassembly is required. It is recommended that your IT department or a computer technician do this. Instructional guides on disassembly are widely available online, specific to your model.
