Ignite by Hatch™ includes a variety of accessibility tools and thoughtful design practices to support diverse learning needs and create a more inclusive experience for all children.
While some accessibility features are settings you can adjust, many are built directly into the design of our games.
Accessibility Built into Ignite’s Design
From the start, we’ve applied accessibility principles in how we build and test child experiences. These principles guide everything from visual design to interaction models:
Audio-Backed Instructions
All instructions include an audio component. If a child needs more time to respond, instructions are automatically repeated. Children can also tap the host character at any time to hear the directions again.
Large, Central Answer Options
Answer choices are designed to be large and placed near the center of the screen to support easier selection.
High Color Contrast
All text and key visual elements use high contrast to improve readability.
Intentional Animation Design
Animations are designed to be engaging without being distracting. Key objects are visually clear and easy to interact with.
Focus Layers
When possible, a semi-transparent “focus” layer is used to separate important content from background elements, helping children with visual or cognitive impairments focus more easily.
Simple Game Mechanics
Games are designed with intuitive mechanics that don’t rely on fine motor skills, so children can demonstrate their learning without physical barriers.
Nonverbal Interaction
Ignite supports children with speech delays by allowing them to show what they know without needing to speak.
Ongoing Improvements
We are continually working to expand accessibility across all Ignite experiences and are integrating evolving standards into future development.
These principles also inform the accessibility tools described below.
Note: Availability of tools may vary depending on the specific game or learning experience.
Audio Customization
Educators and children can adjust or mute background music and sound effects within Ignite. This can be especially helpful for children who are sensitive to sound or who need a quieter environment to focus.

Closed Captioning
Closed captioning is available in games covering 1st grade skills. Captions provide on-screen text synchronized with audio instructions, supporting children who are deaf, hard of hearing, or benefit from reading along.

Keyboard Accessibility
Select Ignite experiences support keyboard navigation. Children can use the arrow keys to move and the Space Bar or Enter to submit answers, providing an alternative to touch or mouse input for those with limited motor control.
