Introducing the CSV Import of Child Data
- Insights provides a method for importing child and family data via CSV format. This method of adding data can be helpful if you have the ability to export roster data in bulk from another platform, such as Teaching Strategies.
- Importing new family members will trigger a welcome email inviting each family member to visit Insights to view progress reports and recommended activities and to begin using the Ignite app with their child/children at home.
- There is currently no limit to the number of children you can import at one time!
- Visit ROSTER > Imports > Roster CSV.
- You will see gray bars on the page, one of which will be labeled Import Children & Family Members. Select this bar.
- This will unfold details about correct formatting of the import.
- You will also see the option to download a blank template or a template containing your current data (for each import type).
What Can This Import Do?
- Add new children and (optionally) their associated family members.
- Assign a family member to a child by listing them in the same row.
- Assign a child to a class (or change classes) by listing them in the same row.
- Update child demographic info other than name and birth date.
How Do I Start an Import?
- Ensure your teacher and class setup is complete. Classes must be present in the system in order to create child accounts.
- Visit the Import Roster CSV page and download the CSV template. If you have any data in the system already, we recommend you download your current data and add to it to avoid importing duplicates.
- Review the required fields carefully and gather any data sources you need to provide the needed information.
- Copy and paste or fill data into the template.
- It is important to use a downloaded template file format saved as a .CSV file type.
- If you have exported data from another source, copy data columns in alignment into the template.
- Keep an eye out for slight formatting differences, which can be fixed with a "find and replace."
- Match system spelling for schools and classes. For fields such as class names, we recommend you use the Copy Class Names buttons so that you can copy exact spelling. The exact spelling of existing classes is required to assign children correctly.
- Upload your data on the same page from which you downloaded the template.
- Fix errors as they arise. Even if you have errors, your correct data will be applied to the system immediately. You can download our shorter "Corrections Sheet," including only the rows that need fixes to save time sifting through data and uploading.

Family Member Fields
Adding family members is optional but allows for play at home on a family member's device.

- Must be a valid email address that can receive emails. Passwords will be delivered via email.

- Insights currently does not send any text messages to family members' phone numbers.

Educational Journey Field
The Educational Journey field is optional.
- This field relates to the Hatch™ products that your organization has purchased. Children will be given a seat in the product that you enter here and the ability to play with that product.
- Leaving this field blank will result in all children uploaded being given all licenses that your organization has purchased seats for.
- Please specify the educational journey that you'd like your child to be a part of. Current options include:
