HOW DO THE ENTRY/EXIT CHECK-UPS PROGRESS?
- The Check-Ups span Skill Levels 2, 3 and 4 within the four Learning Domains:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Language & Communication
- Social-Emotional Development
- To ensure skill ability is quickly assessed, Check-Up experiences do not include correct or incorrect answer feedback (which is typically in place to support, guide, and instruct children). This can make the experiences a bit more challenging.
- As the check-ups begin, children start playing at Skill Level 2. Upon completion of Skill Level 2, children progress to Skill Levels 3 and then 4 (until, or unless, they score below 80% in any of the Check-Ups).
- After a child scores below 80% one time, the Check-Up for that domain is complete, and the child will not see any further Check-Up experiences for that domain during that Check-Up period (this is true of both Entry and Exit Skill Check-Ups).
- Check-Up experiences are not repeated within the Check-Up (i.e., during Entry, a check-up score below 80% will not be repeated during the Entry Check-Up. The experience WILL be reintroduced during the subsequent Exit Check-Up, and this differs from the Core Ignite Experiences, which appear repeatedly to children who score below 80%, offering corrective feedback, so children learn and eventually demonstrate the skill later.
- Because children will not see any experiences ABOVE a skill level for which they scored below 80%, many children will not engage with or see all 31 experiences in either the Entry or the Exit Check-Ups.
- The child's skill level is measured as the highest skill level that the child has passed before scoring below 80%.
